HomebaseUS

HomebaseUS matches International students with host families who open their homes and hearts and provide a nurturing family experience. Host families make lasting connections with the students who live with them, fostering a warm cross-cultural exchange.

Students working together at deskOur students are typically high school aged, but some are here to attend middle school and college. Similar to exchange programs, HomebaseUS students are among the brightest and most creative in their home countries, and they wish to study in the United States.

Students are placed for one academic year in most cases, though we do have a need for short-term, 1-2 week, summer and winter “camp” hosts, as well. Students are expected to integrate into their host family’s lives, attending family events, celebrating US holidays, and participating in daily household functions just like the other children in the home.

Host families provide basic room and board and receive a stipend to cover costs. We look for hosts who enthusiastically welcome students, spending the time to fully integrate the student into their families, and who are willing to support the student’s transition into a new and unfamiliar culture. This takes many forms from showing students local attractions, helping with homework when possible, and integrating with the local community.
